How much dechlorinator for a 110 gallon tank?

48 × 18 × 30 in · freshwater planning

11 mL Prime for 110 US gal of new water

110 gallon · dechlorinator dose

The working

Prime standard US label ratio: 5 mL ÷ 50 US gal = 0.1 mL/gal. Full nominal fill: 110 × 0.1 = 11 mL. A 25% change of estimated working water: 110 × 0.85 × 0.25 = 23.38 gal; dose = 2.34 mL when treating that new water separately.

This upright rectangle adds vertical room without a wider bottom. The 48 × 18-inch base has an aspect ratio of 2.67:1. A lid or light must span roughly 48 inches; measure rim openings and bracket adjustment before ordering.

Count full 5 mL capfuls only where the dose permits, then measure the remainder with a syringe. The drop estimate is impractical for large fills and varies with the dispenser. A complete nominal fill of this 110-gallon tank differs from treating its estimated 23.38-gallon quarter-change in a separate container. Direct-to-tank dosing follows the full aquarium-volume instruction on the label.

Moving up from the 90 gallon changes mL of Prime for a nominal fill from 9 to 11: an increase of 22.22%. Budget for the larger requirement rather than reusing the smaller plan unchanged.

Assumptions and limits

Read the current bottle. Seachem specifies 5 mL (one capful) per 50 US gallons of new water. Its rounded metric label is not an exact conversion of that ratio. When Prime is added directly to the aquarium, Seachem says to base the dose on the aquarium volume. The small change dose here assumes separate treatment in a container. Other products and formulations have different doses; no API dose is assumed. Generic formula: water gallons × label mL ÷ label gallons.

First decisions for this large setup

At 110 nominal gallons, write down whether conditioner is going into separate replacement water or directly into the aquarium. The label instruction changes the volume used for that calculation. Measure larger quantities in mL or full capfuls; keep the dosing record beside the hose routine to avoid a missed or duplicated addition.

How to use this plan

  1. Read the exact product label and identify how much water it treats.
  2. Measure the new water; this change plan treats 23.38 US gallons separately.
  3. For standard Prime use 2.34 mL for that new water, measured with a graduated syringe. Follow all bottle conditions before adding it.
